The explanation for the defeat

“We made too many mistakes against an opponent of this calibre; Olympique Lyonnais’ victory is beyond dispute. The emotional rollercoaster between our equaliser and Lyon’s quick third goal really hurt us. We tried to get back on level terms, but if you’re not well-organised, you leave gaps. We needed to be able to accept the third goal and stick to a more organised approach; that’s not easy to do.”

Bouncing back

“We have to acknowledge the quality of the opposition, even if we made mistakes – mistakes I’m sure we can put behind us. We’ll keep fighting for European places. The match against PFC will be crucial. ”

Brice Samba suspended for Marseille

“In my view, it was more of a challenge by Mousa [Editor’s note: regarding the incident that led to the penalty]. That’s also part of the story of this match. It looks like we’ll have to do without Brice for the final match.”

Valentin Rongier

« We have some regrets; we didn’t get the result we wanted. When you look at the match as a whole, there’s no need to be frustrated – Lyon were the better side. This should motivate us to realise we still have work to do to reach that level. It came down to the small details, but overall Lyon deserved the win. I’m annoyed to say this in the heat of the moment; I would have preferred us to respond better tonight. Well done to them! We need to focus on next week; there are two absolutely crucial matches left to reach our goal. We’ve been working like mad since the start of the year; we’re not going to give up now.»

Breel Embolo

« We started well; the 1-1 draw was deserved. The 2-1 was down to a defensive error – that shouldn’t happen three minutes before half-time. In the second half, we came back, controlled the game and made a mistake coming out of defence; that’s just part of our game. It was an open match for both sides, but Lyon had the edge in the end. We’ll take the defeat, but we’ll keep going; we’ve got goals to achieve.»
