Two years after arriving in Brittany, the former FC Chauray player from the Deux-Sèvres region can now set his sights higher. As part of the squad that won the Gambardella Cup a year and a half ago, Thâo was in goal on four occasions during the most recent edition, keeping four clean sheets.
A French U16 and U17 international and winner of the Montaigu tournament in 2025, the Niort-born player had the opportunity to test himself at the highest level throughout the summer by taking part in part of the pre-season preparations with the Rouge et Noir first team. This marks a new milestone – and a significant one at that – less than ten days before his 17th birthday.

Loïc Désiré, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais F.C.:
« Thâo shows great promise. As well as being a good football goalkeeper, he is well-liked by everyone. This signing is the result of a goalkeeper development programme that has been in place for several years now. His spell with the first team this summer demonstrated his ability to continue to improve. It is now up to him to remain fully committed to our club. »
Denis Arnaud, Director of the Stade Rennais F.C. Academy:
« Thâo deserves this contract because he performs well. Day in, day out, he embodies the club’s values in terms of hard work, determination and attitude. Physically, thanks to his build, he commands the pitch. It makes perfect sense to see him at this stage today. We all know there are still many hurdles to overcome, but things are moving in the right direction. Competitions in the league, the Gambardella Cup and the French national team will continue to help him develop, with the aim of knocking on the door of the professional ranks. »
Thâo Mouapa Mwa Meuraillon :
« I’m really pleased to have signed my first professional contract; I hope this is the start of a long journey. There’s still a lot of work to be done; I need to keep playing matches to continue gaining experience. My time with the first team has been very rewarding, in a very welcoming squad. It’s a level where everything moves faster, where you have to anticipate the play and understand things more quickly. The standards are high, and I’ve enjoyed that. It’s been a brilliant experience. »
