Used 42 times last season, including ten starts in the Champions League, Breel Embolo had a successful year at Monaco (51 appearances including the national team). A striker who came up through the FC Basel youth system, the Yaoundé native enjoyed success with Switzerland's biggest club from the start of his professional career, winning the league title in 2014, 2015 and 2016. His Swiss performances saw him score 32 goals and provide 26 assists in 104 appearances.
An athletic player, his profile attracted the attention of the Bundesliga, first Schalke for three seasons, then Borussia Mönchengladbach for the same length of time. Across the Rhine, he gained consistency in a more competitive league, distinguishing himself in two areas: finishing and final passes. During the 2017-2028 season, he played in 21 matches as Schalke finished second behind Bayern. Also runner-up with ASM in 23/24, Breel Embolo wore the Red and White jersey 89 times (22 goals, 13 assists).
World Cup, Euro, Champions League, Europa League, podium finishes in Germany and France, Breel Embolo has been a major player in numerous conquests. At Rennes, his mission will be to bring all his top-level experience to bear.
Degemer mat Breel !
Arnaud Pouille, Executive Chairman – Chief Executive Officer of Stade Rennais F.C.:
"With Loïc and Habib, we are concluding our summer recruitment with the arrival of Breel, a player who was on our initial shortlist for the striker position but who did not have a release clause at the start of the transfer window. Breel has extensive experience in top-level football. He has performed well at every club he has played for, as well as being a key member of the Swiss national team. Last year, he played more than 50 matches for his club and country, demonstrating his consistency. We are very happy to welcome him to Brittany and are confident that he will meet the expectations of the Rouge et Noir supporters."
Loïc Désiré, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais F.C. :
‘Breel fits the profile we were looking for to complete our attack perfectly, namely a striker who is influential in the box, difficult to move and effective in the final third. We also appreciate his unselfishness and ability to put his teammates in good positions. His experience at the highest level will be an asset to our team.’
Breel Embolo :
"I can't wait to meet the Rennes family and start my new adventure. I see my arrival in Rennes as a great challenge. The club is ambitious, and I am also very determined to have a great season. I've had very good contact with Arnaud Pouille, Loïc Désiré and Habib Beye. Beyond the sporting project, the human aspect also attracted me. I watched Stade Rennais' last few matches, with young players and others who are more experienced. I can't wait to start working and bring my qualities to the team. I'm sure we'll find the right connections."
