A balanced contest leading to a nail-biting finish. The SRFC U18s hosted Stade Brestois 29 on Sunday in the round of 32 of the Coupe Gambardella. It was a Breton derby that lived up to all expectations, with both sides trading blows.
While neither Rennes nor Brest were able to find a way to open the scoring in the first half, the second half proved to be more lively, with clear chances for both sides. William Stanger's players finally took the lead thanks to a goal from Dee Shawn Jacinthe, who was perfectly set up by Noa Koumanou, both of whom came on as substitutes for the Rouge et Noir. However, Brest reacted quickly, equalising five minutes later and pushing both teams into a penalty shootout.
Calm both mentally and technically, the Rouge et Noir were able to master this exercise against their less successful opponents. The final score was 3-1, meaning qualification for the round of 16.
Well done, gentlemen!
