Post-match thoughts:
“I think we were the better side in the match. We did a lot of things well, but that’s the nature of football: even when you feel in control, a positioning error gives the opposition a lifeline and then your confidence wanes. It could have all come down to a penalty out of nowhere, because as far as I’m concerned, it wasn’t a penalty.”
The match
“We’d have been comfortable if we’d scored the third early in the second half. We had a number of good chances. Either we’re capable of putting the game to bed, or we’re capable of not conceding. We did neither. However, I’ll enjoy watching much of the match again because there was movement, positional changes, lots of things that look very good to me. I would have liked to have seen that reflected in a clearer scoreline.”
Brice proves decisive
“We were hardly ever in danger in the end. Brice made a crucial save at the right moment, a two-point move.”
The race for Europe
“We’ll always have to go out and fight for things; there’s nothing to defend. We’ll need to pick up points in Strasbourg, against Nantes, in Lyon… We have to rise to the challenge. The players thought they’d win by a bigger margin tonight and are disappointed because they’re demanding. But they’ve also recorded six wins and a draw in their last eight matches. That’s more than decent. We’re on track; we need to keep doing things right and address lapses in concentration.”
Valentin Rongier suspended for Strasbourg
“He’s obviously an important player for our overall balance. Other players don’t have Valentin’s profile, but they’re also hard-working. We’ll have to adapt, and whoever replaces him will bring what he’s capable of. We’ll see if the system and the way we play evolve.”
Ludovic Blas’s boundless energy
“He’s fully aware of what he’s capable of. I try to instil confidence in him. We know his technical qualities, combined with his work rate – including 75-metre runs – make him a top player. It’s up to him to be that way all the time. It’s not easy; it takes a lot of effort, I know, but he has all the ability. He’s well on the way.”
