The Rennes coach could only watch as the situation quickly turned against his team.

SRFC self-destructs

"It's a difficult match to analyse. We got two red cards in ten minutes, and it became a match we couldn't control, a closed game. We couldn't get a grip on it. Yet we had the chance to go 1-0 up with Seko Fofana's shot. We managed to put them under pressure when they tried to play the ball out. But it became complicated as time went on. We didn't control the momentum in this match, i.e. at the end of the first half. We conceded a goal that knocked us back."

Were we too aggressive at the start of the match?

‘That's part of what we need to bring to a match. The red cards were deserved, but we need to be aggressive. Mahdi may have been a little clumsy. Chris is the last defender, so the rule applies.’

Defensive lapses

"We made a lot of individual mistakes. But in this type of match, you accumulate a lot of fatigue. It takes great mental strength to cope with this situation. It's difficult to criticise the players for their attitude. What bothers me more is that we lost a bit of belief, of thinking that we could still get a good result. The first goal hurt us. "

Re-motivating the troops after this defeat

"It won't be difficult. The situation with the cards means that some players in the squad will have to take on new responsibilities. Some players will have opportunities. Alidu, for example, was exemplary in his commitment and what he offered on the pitch, unlike Djaoui Cissé, who I didn't think was involved enough. It's in situations like this that you have to show your attitude and prove that you have the will to fight on the pitch."
