A key player in Éric Roy's team, Mahdi Camara, after 115 matches with Stade Brestois, is taking on a new challenge. Giving his all is what characterises him so well. Known for his ability to press, impact opponents and provide support in every move, the Martigues native has also shown remarkable consistency with the white and reds.
The former Saint-Étienne captain, who trained in Forez, has indeed grown in stature in Finistère, playing with his team in the top flight of Ligue 1 McDonald's during the 23/24 season, finishing third at the end, and achieving a very good run in the Champions League the following season (10 games played, 1 goal, 1 assist).
Welcome to our fourth summer signing!
Arnaud Pouille, Executive Chairman – Managing Director of Stade Rennais F.C.:
"Like the first three signings of this transfer window, we are demonstrating our strong desire to bring quality and experience to the club. Mahdi is coming off three seasons at the highest level with Brest. He is a player with a great competitive spirit, which the fans at Roazhon Park will appreciate. I am very happy that Mahdi will be able to continue his career in Brittany. I am convinced that he will enjoy playing for us just as much. "
Loïc Désiré, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais F.C.:
"This is a deal that has been in the works for several weeks and is now coming to fruition. After many discussions, we realised that we were on the same wavelength when it came to our shared sporting ambitions. Mahdi has gained valuable experience and maturity during his last few seasons with Brest. By signing Mahdi, we are bringing in a complete player who can bring a lot of intensity to the pitch and is a great leader. "
Mahdi Camara:
"A lot of things convinced me. When the club's managers spoke, I immediately felt a keen interest. We know that Stade Rennais is an ambitious club, and I like that. I was able to talk to Ibrahim Salah and Romain Del Castillo, and they had nothing but good things to say about Rennes. My desire is to continue doing what I've done well in the past. At 27, I also know that I can still improve, and I think I'm in the right place to do that. Valentin, Frankie and Quentin signed before me. They are well-known names, established players who are joining a group that is already of very high quality, which is obviously appealing."
