In search of a midfield player with character, pace and technical quality, SRFC have chosen Sebastian Szymański to strengthen their attacking unit. At 26, the Biała Podlaska native from eastern Poland has already built up solid experience at the very highest level, as shown by his 60 European matches (9 goals, 15 assists).
A product of the Legia Warsaw academy, Sebastian quickly made his breakthrough when he was trusted with the first team, winning the league title in his very first season. In Warsaw, he earned more and more playing time, developed without skipping steps, and delivered consistently. His decisive contributions — goals and assists alike - reflected his talent. After 86 appearances, including 9 in Europe, and three domestic trophies, Dynamo Moscow secured his services. He soon settled in on the right flank before moving more regularly into a central role. In Russia, he continued to boost his numbers with 8 goals and 17 assists, once again underlining his value as a team player.
Sebastian then joined Feyenoord on loan for the 2022/2023 season. In the Netherlands, he added another title to his honours list, becoming league champion. With 40 matches, 10 goals and 7 assists, he played a key role in an outstanding season for the red-and-white club, who also reached the Europa League quarter-finals.
A fan favourite in the Netherlands, he attracted interest from several European clubs at the end of that campaign. In the summer of 2023, the left-footer took another step forward by signing for Fenerbahçe, a club where passion for football and pressure are both immense. Under İsmail Kartal, José Mourinho and Domenico Tedesco, he embraced his role as a technical leader. With the Istanbul side, Sebastian reached 134 appearances and won the Turkish Super Cup in 2025, while registering 22 goals and 30 assists.
His international journey began with a twist of fate, when he replaced former Rouge et Noir Kamil Grosicki in September 2019. Three years later, he started in the World Cup round of 16 against France (3–1 defeat). For the “Orły”, he has now earned 50 caps (6 goals, 5 assists).
Our new playmaker will wear the number 17 shirt.
Welcome, Sebastian!
Arnaud Pouille, Executive President – Chief Executive Officer of Stade Rennais F.C.:
“The arrival of Sebastian Szymański at SRFC is the result of constructive work carried out with him and Fenerbahçe. The player’s quality meant he had been on our radar for some time, as well as on those of several top European clubs. His signing should also revive fond memories for Rennes supporters, who had the pleasure of watching another Polish attacker here a few years ago, Kamil Grosicki.
Discussions with Loïc, Habib and Frankie – his compatriot, who spoke very highly of SRFC – were all key factors in convincing him to join. Stade Rennais continues to show that it is an attractive and ambitious club.”
Loïc Désiré, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais F.C.:
“He’s a profile we wanted in our squad, with the versatility to play in several positions. We were looking for a player capable of making the difference in the final third and unlocking matches. He is very accurate with crosses and set pieces. Sebastian has an impressive CV, with European competition experience, which is a key criterion in line with our objectives. He has played in different leagues and experienced different styles of football. We also had a strong ambassador in Frankie, who gave him a very positive image of the club. Players enjoy life at the club and in our beautiful region, and that matters.”
Sebastian Szymański:
“It’s been a long day and I’m very happy to finally be in Rennes and to join Stade Rennais. A new life in France is beginning and it’s truly incredible — I can’t wait to discover the city and the club. I really enjoyed the discussions with the staff. I’m happy to be joining Ligue 1; it’s a very competitive league and I’m ambitious about flourishing here. Frankie? He’s a great guy, a great ambassador (laughs). I like him a lot and it’s good to have him by my side to help with my adaptation, both on and off the pitch.”

When asked at a press conference a few hours before his signing was made official, Habib Beye spoke about his arrival:
"Sebastian has great technical ability, that special touch. He can play in a three-man midfield or as a number 10, on the right, on the left or in the centre. He is also a set-piece taker and energetic in counter-pressing, which is important in our system. This gives us an additional opportunity. He and Ludo' Blas will bring us extra technical ability, and it's important to have two players with this precision."
