After attending the Mohammed VI Academy in Rabat – like Nayef Aguerd and Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal – Yassir Zabiri, the revelation and top scorer of the last U20 World Cup, is joining Brittany.
Born in Marrakesh, a player of the 2005 generation, he discovered football at a very young age and joined KAC Marrakesh for two seasons before being spotted by the Mohammed VI Academy at the age of 10. He developed his skills over nine years and then joined Union Touarga Sport, the club with which he played his first professional match in January 2024. After 11 matches, 3 goals and 1 assist, he left to gain experience in the Portuguese league in the summer of 2024. After a period of adjustment, he managed to get some playing time with the current 8th-placed team in Liga Portugal, but it was at the U20 World Cup in Chile that Yassir really came into his own. The Moroccan striker lived up to his reputation as a technical player by scoring five goals in the competition, including a brace in the final to clinch the title against Argentina.
The new Rennes player will be able to count on his childhood friend Abdelhamid to help him get to know his new teammates. He will wear the No. 77 shirt.
Welcome to Rennes, Yassir!
Arnaud Pouille, Executive Chairman – Chief Executive Officer of Stade Rennais F.C.:
"Yassir was closely monitored by Loïc and the club's scouts. As we did with Abdelhamid Aït Boudlal and Mahamadou Nagida, whom we recruited at the end of their training, the club will provide all its expertise to enable him to flourish quickly at Stade Rennais F.C.
In addition to his footballing qualities, we found him to be a very pleasant young man with his head screwed on.
I would also like to commend the work of the Mohammed VI Academy, with whom we have an excellent working relationship based on trust. "
Loïc Désiré, Sporting Director of Stade Rennais F.C.:
"Yassir is a talented player and he has taken a step forward thanks to the U20 World Cup. His movement, his ability to read the game, his running and his composure in front of goal make him a very interesting prospect.
I would also like to commend the work of the recruitment team, who travelled regularly to Portugal. This signing is also the result of their work.
Like Abdelhamid, who has made great progress since his arrival, we sincerely hope that he will be able to express his full potential in our colours."
Yassir Zabiri:
"I am very happy to be joining Stade Rennais, which is a great club. I was attracted by its project. I know I have chosen the right place to progress; Stade Rennais has a reputation for supporting young players well. I was able to talk about it with Nayef and, of course, Abdelhamid, a friend who told me lots of good things about the club. That made me even more motivated to join Rennes."
